AS AN AUTHOR YOU HAVE TO BE OK WITH PROMOTING YOUR BOOK

This might sound strange, but a lot of authors really struggle with calling themselves authors, and promoting their book. Don’t worry, I totally understand, I’ve been there. It took me quite a few books before I was actually ready to call myself an author, and even then it was with great prompting from my publisher at the time.

The reality is that books don’t sell themselves, they need to be promoted, talked about and marketed. As authors we have to look for any opportunity to shamelessly promote ourselves, and of course I say that tongue in cheek, but not 100% in cheek.

I always find it easier to promote my books via Amazon or Booktopia. I’m not overly concerned about royalties – I want my books to be out there, being bought and read – and ideally my happy readers then reach out to me and decide they want to get further training or coaching with me.

There’s something a little easier about directing people to Amazon or a third party site. It’s almost like an endorsement by someone else. Because as misguided as it may be, most people think that if your book is on Amazon it’s a real book. Nothing could be further from the truth, but there you go.

So in the spirit of this, here is my latest book on Amazon. It’s available on every Amazon on the planet. If you buy a copy, please do me a giant favour and leave a review – these are really important to us authors.

Many thanks,

Andrew

AS AN AUTHOR YOU NEED TO CELEBRATE WHAT YOU’VE DONE.

AS AN AUTHOR YOU NEED TO CELEBRATE WHAT YOU’VE DONE.

One thing I always encourage my new authors to do is to get their book frame and hang it somewhere very visible. Writing and publishing a book is a big deal, it needs to be celebrated. I give my framer a copy of the book I want framed, he cuts the cover off  (so yes, we sacrifice one) and then frames it beautifully.

I’ve got every single book of mine framed and I hang them proudly to remind that I’ve done something very hard that very few people actually do. Celebrate your authorship!

If you want people to actually read what you write – watch this TED talk.

If you want people to actually read what you write – watch this TED talk.

If you write ANYTHING – and you want people to actually read it – watch this 15 minute TED talk.

Now based on what Jim Vanderhei says, most people won’t watch this TED talk – even if their job depended on it. I watched at 3.50am this morning – and it is going to change so much of what I do!

To find out how to actually get people to read what it is you write, we need to know what the data tells us – and rethink how much we are trying to say. This is fascinating – and really important.

There are some valuable key point learnings in here – and a great “HOW TO” section at the end. And the book, Smart Brevity: The Power of Saying More with Less, comes out in September 2022. Mine is ordered.

Andrew

MY NEXT AUTHOR ACADEMY 4 DAY RETREAT IS IN MARCH 2023.

If writing your own non-fiction book is something you’ve been wanting to do for a long time, my 4 day Author Academy retreat could be just the answer. All of the information can be found by following this LINK.

AUTHOR ACADEMY is designed for two types of people – those who are ready to write their first non-ficion book who want a structured process to follow, one on one mentoring as well as group learning and a peer group for support – and that’s exactly what you get at this retreat. The second kind of author are those who have written a book in the past, but didn’t really have a structure to follow – now they want to write another book and they want to do it in a more strategic and structured way.

Check out the information page for all of the details – AUTHOR ACADEMY 4 DAY RETREAT INFORMATION PAGE.
